I know there’s a lot of argument these days as to whether or not Sam is still craft; I personally don’t care. Sam was the brewery that got me into craft beer, and I still enjoy their brews to this day, although I think their marketing department can go a little overboard sometimes. With that said, this is Sam’s attempt at a tropical style IPA.
Crystal clarity, not a NE style unfiltered IPA as one would expect from a Boston brewery. Smells of mango above all else, hops and malt are lost in the aroma. Tastes of piney, citrusy hops and a big kick of mango flavor, malt plays a supporting role underneath it all, but it is still balanced. Creamy medium mouthfeel and a hoppy, citrus peel finish. Not bad, delivers on unique mango flavors, and is a well-balanced, sessionable IPA.
