Flashlight shows no light, minimal head retention, smells of black cherry, chocolate, and coffee. The taste is smoky and lightly sweet with flavors of coffee, caramel, vanilla cream, smoke, and subtle cherry on a thick and creamy full body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of smoke, herbal hops, grapefruit, and pine. Overall, this is very good, a nice balance between sweet malts and bitter hops, infused with smoke for added complexity yet very drinkable. I’m finding my favorite Clown Shoes brews are the stronger dark beers.
