Barely hazy mahogany hue, light head retention, smells of coffee, maraschino cherry, and chocolate. The taste is crisp and lightly tart, with flavors of cordial cherry, caramel, and a light yeasty funk on a smooth medium body. The finish is long and moderately bitter, featuring notes of charred oak, toasted caramel, sherry, coffee, light smoke, and herbal hops. Overall, it’s a good beer, but far from the coffee brown ale I was expecting. This tastes like an Oud Bruin mixed with Kriek and coffee, but as I said, the end result is far from unappealing.
