Flashlight reveals a clear purplish plum color, smells of leather, dark chocolate, and black pepper. The taste is intense and multilayered, with flavors of plum, blackberry, cherry, strawberry, and dates on a silky smooth and decadent full body. The finish is long and moderately dry and with low astringency, featuring notes of aus jus, dark chocolate, old leather, pipe tobacco, and forest floor. Overall, this is mind openingly good, it introduced to me new flavors and new levels of layered complexity in a wine than I had even thought possible. This is not an everyday wine, this is a special occasion wine, and I thank my good friend Ansichart for sending it to me for my birthday.
