I review the beers I drink

Ommegang – Rosetta

Collaboration with brewery Liefmans in Belgium, named after a former Liefmans brewmaster, and first female brewmaster in Belgium, Madame Rosa Merckx.  “A perfectly balanced blend of old (aged on cherries at least three years) and young Flemish brown ale (or oud bruin) with a lively and fruity kriek, or cherry beer.”

Anyway, a clear, very deep reddish brown color, smells of sweet and sour cherry, lot of acidity, though this beer claims not to be overly tart. Light, but effervescent mouthfeel. Tastes of tart cherry, yes, but with a very interesting counterbalance provided by the dark malts. Hop flavor is more or less replaced by a dry savory cherry flavor that develops in the finish, which ultimately is completely washed away by a wave of saliva brought forth by the astringency. This beer claims to be ” a sour fruit beer that invites you to have another” and I gotta say, it is extremely sessionable.
