Flashlight shows not a hint of light, minimal head retention, smells of roast coffee and dark chocolate. The taste is crisp and lightly smoky upfront, while sweet cream and a hint of orange ride beneath the thick, creamy body. The finish is long and low to moderate in bitterness, with notes of herbal hops and citrus peel as well as residual roast coffee, chocolate, and orange oil. Overall, it’s a very intriguing beer, the citrus is definitely subtle here, perhaps any more and the balance would be off, I don’t know. Either way this is still Tree House, and still a world class stout.
