I review the beers I drink

Jim Beam – Repeal Batch

So, I decided to dabble in whiskey reviewing, so I grabbed a standard Glencairn for neat tasting, and a Canadian Glencairn for rocks tasting. I’m new at this, so forgive me if my method is faulty.

Neat:

A clear golden honey color; smells of charred oak, caramel and toffee with a boozy edge. The taste is subtly sweet with similar accents as the aroma. The finish is long yet mellow with a gentle burn and a faint drying astringency.

Rocks:

Slightly lighter in color, smell has much more floral and molasses notes. The taste is perhaps more woody but also more balanced, with an added hint of citrus hiding in the background. The finish is the same yet more mild due to the added water.

Overall, it’s my first review so I don’t have anything to compare it to yet, but i enjoyed it. The Repeal Batch is not chill-filtered, supposedly giving a potential for cloudiness but I have not seen any. I will have to try the original Beam soon to see what additional effects this lack of filtering has.

ABV:43%
IBU:
Malts:75% Corn, 13% Rye
Hops:Aged in new charred white oak barrels for at least 4 years
Other:Not chill-filtered
Yeast:Sour Mash
