Lightly hazy with minimal head retention, but the logo on the glass is almost visible! Smells of fresh ground coffee, with all it’s nuanced aromas of roasty, fruity, chocolatey goodness; not much else is discernable, but I’m not complaining. The taste is an odd juxtaposition of coffee and sweet bready malts, maybe some citrus hop notes, matched to a medium body. The finish is moderately bitter, but almost all of the hop flavors are dominated by the coffee, only at the very end can some herbal and pine notes be detected. Overall, it’s not awful, just weird! The label promises “fruit-forward” hops but really all I get here is coffee. I love a good coffee stout, because the roasted malts and roasted coffee play off each other, but here, the hops and coffee just work against each other.
