New Belgium – Monk’s Pajamas

Monk’s Pajamas by NB brewer Geoff Wenzel, 6oz 1554 and 6oz Abbey. Tawny in color with modest head retention, smells of Belgian yeast and a soft, subtle smokiness. The taste is dark and roasty, with a strong coffee flavor, and a buttery, toasty bready base underneath paired with a thick, full body. The finish is dry and a little smoky, with a low to moderate bitterness and earthy, herbal hopping that plays well against the malts and leaves the palate clean. Overall, this mix is awesome, contender for my favorite here, it’s like a cross between a porter and a brown, with just a touch of Belgian flair, and a clean lager finish.
