I review the beers I drink

Saranac – Black Forest Cake

This appears to be the Black Forest but with chocolate, vanilla, and cherries added in.

Flashlight gives a clear mahogany glow, light head retention, smells of chocolate and cherries not unlike a cherry cordial. The taste is quick flash of tart cherry before traditional smoky malts overpower it; subtle chocolate rides beneath on the medium body. The finish is moderate in length but low in bitterness, with herbal, spicy, and a hint of pine hops mixed with some residual smoke and tart cherry. Overall, I do like it better than the original Black Forest, it has a little more complexity and originality, and the end result is just as drinkable if not more.
